The Sweet Briar Chamber Orchestra and the riding program will present a joint program, “Le Carrousel,” at around 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, on the dell near Prothro Hall. Please note, the event follows the procession to Monument Hill for Founders’ Day, and the start time may vary.
“Le Carrousel” was an outdoor pageant for the court of Louis XIV that featured music, equestrian ballet and staged jousting. The College has devised its own carousel as part of the Founders’ Day celebration. The exhibition will feature the chamber orchestra performing “Pour Le Carrousel” by Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687), as well as members of the riding program and approximately eight of Sweet Briar’s horses in a pass-in-review.
Riding program director Mimi Wroten will herald each smartly dressed equestrian and her horse as they pass the viewing area. All are welcome to join in this wonderful opportunity to gather together and listen to beautiful music as Sweet Briar’s internationally known riding program showcases some of its horses and riders.
